Nagamine Takayoshi, the second generation successor to Matsubayashi-Ryu, was born in Naha, Okinawa on August 12, 1945. As the Son of the founder, Nagamine Sensei had the opportunity to train under the top teachers of the time, such as Chosin Chibana, and was groomed from an early age to one day take over his fathers style. Still in his teens Takayoshi started teaching afternoon schoolboys class. Even at a young age he exhibited a talent for creativity and inspired intense loyalty among the students. While still a young man (age 22), he was invited to help propogate Matsubayashi -Ryu in the United States and while there, continue his studies at Cincinnati University. Nagamine stayed and taught for 9 years in the Ohio area and eventually produced many quality Karate-Ka, who spread the art throughout the U.S. and Canada in an effort to continue his fathers teachings as they were in Okinawa. While teaching in the U.S Nagamine made many lasting friendships with some of the prominent figures in karate at the time such as William Domitrich of Chito-Ryu Karate. Nagamine eventually had to return to Okinawa to help with the teaching responsibilities, and the runnings of the Naha Dojo. For many years, Nagamine Sensei worked as a councilman for the Naha City assembly and was very active for the Okinawan government, still making frequent trips to the U.S over the years. Master Takashi Nagamine died in 2012.
